Researchers from the John A. Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah will present new findings on eye disease, treatments, and technology at the 2026 Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) Annual Meeting.
Several presentations will highlight the work of scientists affiliated with Moran’s Alan S. Crandall Center for Glaucoma Innovation, including the laboratories of David Krizaj, PhD; Ian Pitha, MD, PhD; Fiona McDonnell, PhD; Brian Stagg, MD; and Iqbal Ike K. Ahmed, MD, FRCSC. This includes presentations on the eye’s drainage system, the latest implantable surgical devices, and evaluations of new laser treatments.
Another group of presentations highlights new discoveries in retinal research from the laboratories of Paul S. Bernstein, MD, PhD; Suva Roy, PhD; Wendy Zhu, PhD; Christopher Conrady, MD, PhD; and Moussa Zouache, PhD. This includes how cells respond to low oxygen, mechanisms that support retinal health, genetics in age-related macular degeneration, and discoveries about viruses in the eye.
Moran faculty and adjunct researchers will also share:
- new imaging approaches to study eye development (Kristen Kwan, PhD),
- an artificial intelligence tool used for age-related macular degeneration care (Adam Dubis, PhD),
- population health studies (Afua Asare, PhD), and
- nutritional approaches that may benefit eye and overall health.
