University of Utah Health Secures Top Recognitions In U.S. News & World Report 2026-2027 Best Hospitals Rankings

Top honors awarded to University of Utah Hospital, John A. Moran Eye Center, Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital, and Huntsman Cancer Institute.

The U.S. News & World Report 2026-2027 Best Hospitals rankings have rated University of Utah Hospital #1 in the Salt Lake City metro area for the 13th consecutive year. The John A. Moran Eye Center is ranked #9 in the country for ophthalmology care, and the Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital is ranked #1 in Utah and #38 nationally for rehabilitation care. Huntsman Cancer Institute was ranked #1 in Utah and “high performing” nationally in cancer care.

U.S. News & World Report evaluated nearly 5,000 medical centers nationwide in more than 30 services and specialties for its 2026-2027 rankings. This rigorous assessment includes factors such as risk-adjusted survival rates, discharge-to-home rates nursing quality, and other indicators of top-quality patient care.

The John A. Moran Eye Center has achieved top 10 national recognition for the fifth consecutive year, according to U.S. News & World Report's annual ranking of the nation's leading eye centers. This prestigious ophthalmology ranking is based on expert opinion, drawn from three years of comprehensive surveys conducted among practicing ophthalmologists across the country.

“Our Top 10 ranking provides patients with added confidence that when they choose Moran, they are receiving the highest quality care from world-renowned experts,” says Jeff Pettey, MD, MBA, Chair of the U’s Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. “I am thankful for this recognition of our highly trained physicians and their commitment to excellence.”

Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital is ranked #1 in the state of Utah and #38 for its exceptional healing experience for patients recovering from events like spinal cord injury, stroke, and traumatic brain injuries.

Huntsman Cancer Institute earned recognition as the #1 hospital for cancer care in Utah and the Salt Lake City metro area, and “High Performing” recognition nationally in cancer. The institute also earned a “High Performing” rating in leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma care, lung cancer surgery, as well as prostate, gynecological, lung, and colon cancer surgery.
