Barbara L. Wilson, PhD, RNC-BC will serve as interim Dean of the College of Nursing. This appointment will officially begin this fall, when Dean Patricia Morton retires.

Dr. Wilson is currently an associate professor and the Associate Dean for Academic Programs within the College of Nursing. Her professional background includes many years in the acute-care setting where she assumed various clinical and administrative roles, primarily in women’s and newborn services. Her research interests are focused on health care services, evaluating the influence of providers, hospitals, and the care delivery system on patient outcomes; and on the use of Human Factors Engineering in reducing clinical errors and promoting patient safety. As a nurse research consultant for 6 years, Dr. Wilson also assisted in implementing evidence-based practice policies and guidelines.

She is an active member of the community, with involvement and leadership in committees and organizations both on and off campus. She has her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Utah, a master’s of science in maternal-child nursing from Brigham Young University and a PhD in health care systems from University of Arizona College of Nursing.

As we continue to advance health at the University of Utah, our deans play a vital role in inspiring innovation and progress. Dr. Wilson will build on the impressive foundation laid by Dean Morton in the College of Nursing and continue to enable both students and faculty excellence.
