Maia Hightower, M.D., has been recognized by Health Data Management as one of the most powerful women in Healthcare IT in 2019. Hightower is the chief medical information officer (CMIO) at University of Utah Health. She was formerly the CMIO at University of Iowa Health Care.

In her position, Hightower has led electronic medical record (EMR) upgrades and the development of a physician informatics officer team, which provides peer support to clinicians to increase EMR proficiency and adoption. Hightower has a strong clinical perspective on the use of healthcare data, specifically in its ability and influence to manage patient and population health information.
