New message encourages people to reach out for “any size crisis” 

Today, the SafeUT app gets a new look with a new logo and website at SafeUT.org. The website offers expanded resources to better support students, parents, educators, National Guard, and frontline workers facing a mental health crisis or concern. The SafeUT app provides immediate, real-time, two-way communication with a licensed counselor at no cost, 24/7/365. 

“When we launched SafeUT in 2015, our goal was to continue to improve, grow, and evolve the app and what we offer through the program,” says Rachel Lucynski, Business Operations Manager, HMHI Crisis Services. “SafeUT will always be a resource for students, and now we have more to offer parents, educators, frontline workers, and members of the National Guard through the app and our new website.” 

Downloadable to any smartphone, the SafeUT app provides confidential support through chat/text or phone call. Counselors and crisis workers from Huntsman Mental Health Institute are trained to help with any type of crisis or concern, including depression and anxiety, suicide prevention, drug and alcohol problems, self-harm, loss and grief, bullying and cyberbullying, relationship difficulties, other life transitions and challenges. The website also supports SafeUT Frontline and SafeUTNG (National Guard), launched in 2020. 

“Last year, Utah experienced a 57% increase in life-saving intervention requests through the SafeUT app,” said Ric Cantrell, Chief of Staff, Utah Attorney General’s Office, and Chair of the SafeUT Commission. “The new resources for SafeUT, SafeUT Frontline, and SafeUTNG will prevent tragedy by offering early assistance and professional solutions long before life's challenges escalate into a crisis."

What’s new at SafeUT.org?

- New colors and new logos!

- New SafeUT Resources: 

    • Firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical service, and health care professionals and their families can get information about SafeUT Frontline
    • Utah Air and Army National Guard members, civilian personnel, and their families can connect to information about SafeUTNG.
    • Students can get their questions answered, download the app, or learn more about the tip line. 
    • Parents can learn how to support their child with SafeUT and download conversation starters and other tips to help talk to their child about mental health. 
    • Educators and schools can request a member of the SafeUT team to attend an event or request marketing materials like posters or flyers to hang or hand out to students to remind them that help is always near. 
    • The SafeUT program is constantly evolving, and research benefits the growth of the program. Parents and students who have used the app can participate in a survey to help improve SafeUT (use code 2108).

SafeUT services are provided by University of Utah Health and supported by many partners, including Utah Department of Human Services, Utah System of Higher Education, Utah State Senate, Utah Office of the Attorney General, Utah State Board of Education, Utah House of Representatives, and Utah Technical Colleges.
