Comprehensive benefits, model employee services, and subsidized child development centers are part of what makes the University of Utah Hospitals & Clinics one of the top 10 family-friendly companies in Utah.

The Utah Department of Workforce Services Office of Child Development announced Thursday that University Hospital was among 10 companies to win 2002 Work/Life Awards. Utah's First Lady Jacalyn Leavitt presented the awards at a Thursday morning breakfast at the Peery Hotel in downtown Salt Lake City.

Award winners have demonstrated commitment and leadership to incorporate work/life programs into their business strategies. They've also successfully innovated ways to meet their employees needs, according to the Office of Child Care.

"At University Hospital, our patients need the best efforts from employees 100 percent of the time," said Richard A. Fullmer, executive director. "We cannot expect the best patient care and customer service from our staff without providing them the support they need--during the work day as well as in their personal lives. Our investment in employee programs is more than returned through their commitment to our patients."

Services available to hospital employees touch nearly every part of their lives. These range from an employee assistance program that provides counseling for personal and work issues; educational and recreational opportunities through the hospital and University; on-site or near-site child care; affordable health care; health, wellness, and fitness programs; and discounted recreational, athletic, and cultural events.
