U Trustees Confirm Peter Jensen, M.D., as Chair of Pathology

Salt Lake City--Peter E. Jensen, M.D., has been confirmed as chair of the Department of Pathology at the University of Utah School of Medicine. The U of U Board of Trustees approved the appointment at a Sept. 13 meeting.

Jensen joins the U from Emory University School of Medicine where he served as professor and vice chair of pathology and laboratory medicine and director of the Division of Experimental Pathology. He has made important contributions in fundamental areas of immunology.

A native of Pullman, Wash., Jensen received a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from the University of Georgia and earned his medical degree at Vanderbilt University. During his tenure at Emory University, he served as associate editor of the Journal of Immunology and participated in numerous institutional and department committees.

As Department of Pathology chair, Jensen will lead a diversified, multifunction department with more than 70 faculty in six divisions, including Anatomic Pathology, Cell Biology and Immunology, Clinical Pathology, Dental Education, Pathology Education, and Pediatric Pathology. He will assume his new position on Nov. 1.
