Christopher Nelson Named to New Public Affairs Post at U Health Sciences Center

Christopher Nelson has been named associate director of public affairs at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center.

In his new role, Nelson will help coordinate both internal and external communications efforts for the U of U Hospitals & Clinics; School of Medicine, colleges of Pharmacy, Nursing, and Health; and the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library.

Nelson previously served as manager of public relations and marketing for the University's John A. Moran Eye Center. He currently serves as the president of the Utah Society of Healthcare Communicators and Planners.

Nelson is the recipient of a number of public relations awards, including a 2003 Golden Spike Award from the Utah chapter, Public Relations Society of America/International Association of Business Communicators for Moran's community vision screenings campaign.

The new position marks Nelson's return to the Health Sciences Center Public Affairs office. Prior to his work at Moran, he served as a public relations specialist in the department and as editor of the newsletter Pulse.

Nelson is a graduate of the U of U communication and political science programs.
