University of Utah Hospital Opens South Jordan Health Center, New Patient-Visit System

Residents of South Jordan can now access the vast medical services available at the University of Utah from their own neighborhood at the newly opened South Jordan Health Center.

Located at 1091 West South Jordan Parkway (10600 South), the facility is one of seven U of U community clinics located on the Wasatch Front. The center specializes in family medicine and offers pharmacy, lab, X-ray, and Moran Eye Center vision services. In most cases patients can be seen on the same day they call for an appointment.

Designed to expedite care and minimize waiting time, the center features a novel patient-visit system. Patients will be met upon arrival by a medical assistant, who will help with blood samples, X-rays, and will update medical records while the patient and provider discuss health-care needs and treatment. The assistant also will help with referrals or follow-up appointments during the visit.

The new patient-escort approach at the South Jordan Health Center is meant to maximize the time patients spend with their provider, according to Rob Lloyd, executive director of University Hospital's community clinics. "Our patients' time is valuable and we want to make the best use of each minute the patient is with us." In addition, the health center will follow an advance registration method to reduce paperwork upon arrival. "Patients should expect thorough explanations of health-care treatments, plans, and a visit summary at each appointment," Lloyd said.

Urgent care is available by appointment at the South Jordan Health Center during regular business hours, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. After hours and weekend urgent care is available at the Redwood Urgent Care Center located at 1525 W. 2100 South.
