University of Utah Hospital has been named one of the country's best hospitals by the National Research Corporation (NRC). In the annual competition, University Hospital received the 2007/08 Consumer Choice Award for the Salt Lake City area for its high quality and image. Recipients of the Consumer Choice Award appear in the September issue of Modern Healthcare magazine.

The annual Consumer Choice Award identifies hospitals that health-care consumers have chosen as having the highest quality and image in more than 190 markets throughout the United States. According to the NRC, winners are determined by consumer perceptions of quality and image gathered in the annual survey of more than 200,000 households. Of the 3,200 hospitals nationwide named by consumers, 225 made NRC's list of top hospitals and received the Consumer Choice Award.

"We are committed to providing quality service, and the Consumer Choice Award means we have achieved a level of service that is valued by our patients and the community," said David Entwistle, CEO of University Hospitals & Clinics. "We are pleased to be recognized by the Salt Lake community with this award."

NRC, which has more than two decades of experience in health-care performance measurement and improvement, has conducted the Consumer Choice Awards for 12 years.

As part of University Health Care, University Hospitals & Clinics offer services in more than 120 specialties and is consistently ranked as one of the country's best hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. The system provides care for Utahns and residents of five surrounding states in a referral area encompassing more than 10 percent of the continental United States. The hospitals and clinics log more than 900,000 outpatient visits and more than 23,000 inpatient admissions each year. Its academic partners at the University of Utah School of Medicine and Colleges of Nursing, Pharmacy, and Health are internationally regarded research and teaching institutions.
