U of U Health Care Takes Top Spot in U.S. News & World Report's First Metro Hospital Rankings

SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah Health Care has been ranked first among the region’s health care providers in U.S. News & World Report’s metro rankings for 2011-12. The first edition of the Best Hospitals Metro Area Rankings was released eariler this week.

“This ranking reflects the breadth and depth of care that we offer our patients,” says Lorris Betz, M.D., Ph.D., chief executive officer of University of Utah Health Care and senior vice president for University of Utah Health Sciences. “We always strive to put our patients first, and this honor is the result of our staff’s expertise, dedication, and compassion."

U.S. News ranked hospitals within all 52 U.S. metro areas with populations of 1 million or more, using existing data from 2010-11 Best Hospitals. The new rankings identify top performing hospitals in at least one of 16 adult specialties.

The Metro Rankings add 490 of these high-performing hospitals to the 132 nationally ranked Best Hospitals in the U.S. The metro area rankings will be updated in July at the same time the 2011-12 national Best Hospitals rankings are posted online.
