(SALT LAKE CITY)—Mark A. Supiano, M.D., professor of internal medicine and chief of the Division of Geriatrics in the School of Medicine, has been elected to the board of directors of the American Geriatrics Society (AGS).

He is one of three people elected to three-year terms on the AGS board of directors. Supiano has served in several capacities for the AGS, including on the Research Committee, Professional Executive Education Committee, and as program chair for the 2006 Annual Scientific Meeting. “We are pleased to be able to work with such a diverse and accomplished group,” Sharon Brangman, M.D., chair of the board of directors, said of Supiano and his newly elected colleagues. “Their leadership, commitment, and expertise will provide great insight in advancing the society’s goals and objectives.”

In addition to his roles in the School of Medicine, Supiano also serves as director of both the U of U Center on Aging and the Salt Lake City Veteran Affairs Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center.

The AGS is a New York City-based group of 6,000 health professionals dedicated to improving the health, independence, and quality of life of older people.
