(SALT LAKE CITY)— John Bohnsack, M.D., chief of the Division of Pediatric Immunology and Rheumatology, professor in the Department of Pediatrics, and vice chairman for the Clinical Enterprise in the Department of Pediatrics, has been appointed executive medical officer of the University of Utah Medical Group (UUMG).

Bohnsack’s responsibilities will include working closely with UUMG staff and leadership, serving as the lead physician in implementing UUMG and University of Utah Health Care’s operational goals, serving as a liaison to the School of Medicine division chiefs and faculty in developing clinical practices, and collaborating with clinical medical directors in achieving operation goals and strategies.

“I am thrilled that Dr. Bohnsack is taking on this new role,” says Sean Mulvihill, CEO of the UUMG and associate vice president of clinical affairs. “He has the depth of experience and leadership needed to help us as we position ourselves for success in this dramatically changing health care landscape.”

“The University of Utah has been my academic home since I completed training and I am therefore very excited to serve the Medical Group and Health Sciences Center in this new role,” says Bohnsack. “I look forward to working with all of my colleagues in our efforts to sustain the missions of our academic medical center in this rapidly changing health care environment.”

Bohnsack MD graduated from Yale University and received his medical degree from the University of Virginia. He is board certified in pediatrics and in pediatric rheumatology. He has been a member of the faculty of the University of Utah School of Medicine for 34 years.
