Overview

Back, neck, or spine pain is a serious issue—especially if you received a diagnosis that requires surgery. With such a confusing and often frightening topic, sometimes the right thing to do is get a second opinion.

No Travel Required

Treating back, neck, and spine pain is our area of expertise, which is why we recently introduced the Spine Second Opinion Program. Through the Spine Second Opinion, patients have a new way to receive insight and opinion from a team of skilled surgeons in a multidisciplinary fashion about a previous diagnosis, without needing to travel for an in-person consult.

By simply uploading your previous medical scans and images to our system from your home computer, you’ll be given access to board-certified surgeons who will review your situation and make recommendations for a proper treatment path regarding your particular condition within seven business days.

CONDITIONS

We provide expert second opinions on a wide range of conditions, including:

THREE SIMPLE STEPS TO YOUR SECOND OPINION

1. LET US GET TO KNOW YOU

Start by telling us about yourself using the questionnaire provided. It is important that you include as much detail as possible, since our physicians can only provide a second opinion based upon the information you submit.

2. SUBMIT IMAGES & REPORTS

Upon completing the questionnaire, you will be directed to a secure site where you can upload X-rays, MRI, CT scans, and other reports to be evaluated by our physicians. Any information submitted through the Spine Second Opinion Program will be shared only with designated physicians and staff at University of Utah Health. Note: In order to qualify for the Spine Second Opinion Program, patients must submit all necessary diagnostic images along with a related radiologist report.

3. MAKE A DECISION

Once we receive your information, medical history, images, and reports, our physicians will follow-up within seven business days (from the time your information is officially received) with a customized opinion and treatment plan. You will receive an email notification once your second opinion has been completed, which can be accessed using the Spine Second Opinion account you created.

Note: In no way are patients obligated to seek treatment at University of Utah Health. However, you are interested in inquiring more about our surgeon’s recommendation, please call 801-587-2225.

The Spine Second Opinion Program at University of Utah Health is a way for patients to get expert opinion from board-certified surgeons, who can support or oppose a suggested diagnosis or treatment. It is not designed to replace an in-office visit or examination.

Once our surgeon responds with results and opinion, patients can then schedule an appointment to pursue further treatment.
