Announcer: The Health Minute, produced by University of Utah Health.

Interviewer: Four sneaky ways to get your child active. Dr. Cindy Gellner, what are they?

Dr. Gellner: The first thing you can do is have a day a week where it's Playground Day. If you make it a playdate with some other kids, they're not going to want to leave.

For the kids who really like video games, invest in something like a Wii Sports or the Wii Fit. If they're playing a physically active video game, it does not count towards the two hours of screen time limit, it counts towards their one hour a day of exercise.

Another thing you can do is get them into gymnastics, martial arts classes like taekwondo or karate, or even dance classes. Those are going to help with self-confidence and discipline.

Finally, get your kid to help with chores, but make it fun. Have them help you wash the cars and have water fights while doing it. Walk the dog if you have one, or get your kids involved in gardening.
