Interview Transcript

Announcer: The Health Minute, produced by University of Utah Health.

Interviewer: How to keep your face looking young and healthy. Dermatologist Dr. David Smart, what tips do you have for your patients?

Dr. Smart: To keep your body in shape, you have to exercise. To keep your skin in shape, you need to proactively take care of that as well.

Interviewer: All right. What types of things do you recommend?

Dr. Smart: The three things that I typically recommend are protection from the sun, and that's number one and the biggest. Getting in the habit of using a daily moisturizer with SPF regardless of the weather outside or your plans for the day is very important. Number two, using lotions with antioxidants every day to protect your skin from the DNA damage caused by normal aging. Number three, of course, regular checkups with your skin professional.

Interviewer: So it really is about being proactive more than reactive.

Dr. Smart: Most definitely. It's much easier to prevent than it is to correct. Following these three tips will go a long way in keeping your face and your skin looking young and healthy.
