Donald E. Kohan, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Utah. As a nephrologist, his clinical interests include general nephrology and hypertension.

Dr. Kohan received his MD from the University of Miami. He received training in medicine and nephrology from Washington University. In the past, Dr. Kohan served as Chief of Medicine at the Salt Lake Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Chief of Nephrology at the University of Utah. Dr. Hall called at home a few days after the appointment to check on my husband and see how he was doing. Dr. Ramkumar always does the same thing. We have so much confidence and gratitude to them and to Dr. Rafael.

Academic Bio

Donald E. Kohan, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Utah. As a nephrologist, his research interests include hypertension and polycystic kidney disease. His research particularly focuses on the role of endothelins, nitric oxide, renin and individual adenylyl cyclase isoforms in the regulation of renal salt and water excretion in health and disease. His laboratory is the NIDDK Core for generation of renal cell-specific knockout mice.

Dr. Kohan received his MD from the University of Miami and his PhD from the University of Minnesota. He received training in medicine and nephrology from Washington University. In the past, Dr. Kohan served as Chief of Medicine at the Salt Lake Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Chief of Nephrology at the University of Utah. He is currently a member of a number of nephology societies. He is a regular member of the NHLBI Hypertension and Microcirculation Study Section and the American Society of Nephrology Grants Review Committee. He serves on a number of editorial boards and has been editor or associate editor of a number of journals.
