Bio

Martin Caravati, MD, MPH, is a board-certified physician specializing in medical toxicology. He specializes in caring for children and adults who have experienced poisonings, exposures to toxins, chemicals, heavy metals, snake or spider bites, or adverse reactions or overdoses of medications. He is Director of the Clinical Toxicology Consult Service at University Hospital and Primary Children’s Medical Center. Dr. Caravati has served on the board of directors for the American Association of Poison Control Centers and the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology. He is currently Editor-in-Chief of the journal, Clinical Toxicology.

Academic Bio

Martin Caravati, MD, MPH, is the Director of the Toxicology Consult Service at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center and Primary Children's Medical Center. He is Professor of Surgery (Emergency Medicine) and Adjunct Professor of Occupation Medicine, Pediatrics and Pharmacotherapy at the University of Utah. Dr. Caravati received a bachelor's degree in chemistry at the University of Virginia and a medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia. His residency training in emergency medicine was completed at Carolinas Medical Center and his medical toxicology training at the University of Utah. He obtained a master's degree in Public Health at the University of Utah. He is board certified in both Emergency Medicine and Medical Toxicology. He has served on Board of Directors for the American Association of Poison Control Centers and the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the journal, Clinical Toxicology. His research interests include acute poisonings, poisoning epidemiology, and public health. Dr. Caravati enjoys traveling, camping, hiking , fishing and skiing with family and friends.
