Bio

Karen Buchi, MD is a Professor of Pediatrics and Chief of the Division of General Pediatrics at the University of Utah. In addition to her administrative responsibilities, she cares for pediatric patients at South Main Clinic which is a collaboration between the University of Utah and the Salt Lake Valley Health Department that provides care to underserved women and children. Her research and advocacy interests are focused on maternal substance use and the drug-endangered child.

Academic Bio

Karen Buchi, M.D. is a Professor of Pediatrics and the Chief of the Division of General Pediatrics. She obtained her MD degree at the University of Utah in 1984, where she also completed her pediatric residency in 1987 and her fellowship in developmental and behavioral pediatrics in 1989. She has been involved with issues concerning the drug endangered child for over 20 years, performing prevalence studies, working on state level task forces, and caring for drug exposed infants and children in her role as a clinician at South Main Clinic. She is currently serving as the co-chair of the Drug Endangered Child Committee of the Utah Substance Abuse and Anti-Violence Coordinating Council.
