Dr. Strong has a strong interest in Information Technology and was appointed as the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) for the University of Utah in 2008. He is active in the development, design, and implementation of the Electronic Health Record systems for the University of Utah Hospital and Clinics. He is interested in the creation of computer assisted decision support for clinicians to improve patient care.

Academic Bio

Dr. Strong has a strong interest in Information Technology and was appointed as the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) for the University of Utah in 2008. He is active in the development, design, and implementation of the Electronic Health Record systems for the University of Utah Hospital and Clinics. He is interested in the creation of computer assisted decision support for clinicians to improve patient care.

He has recently become involved in the automation of core measure reporting from the EHR. He is also interested in the integration of different electronic systems. Particularly, he is interested in finding ways to display and share data elements from one EHR into another. This interest is primarly focused on medication lists, patient care documents, problem lists, and allergies. Additionally, integration for viewing purposes of other systems such as PACS and MUSE into the native EHR to enhance system usability and speed.

He also has an interest in working on ways to improve clinical documentation. Specifically, ways to enhance capture of descreet data elements while reducing the time required for clinicians who are doing the documentation. This includes exploring ways to utilize natrual language processing (NLP) but also involves looking at different formats for documents.
