Claudia Goulston MD is an Associate Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases. She also serves as the Director of the Infectious Disease Fellowship Program. She joined the faculty in 2006 and enjoys teaching fellows, residents, interns and medical students the art of the medical detective. She likes the challenge of finding the missed clues that can unravel a mystery. She is interested in HIV, travel medicine and general infectious diseases. Her research interest is in HIV elite controllers and latency.

She has traveled extensively to more than 50 countries and has worked around the world including from Namibia and Zimbabwe to China, Japan and New Zealand. She enjoys continually learning about the latest research and different approaches taken around the world to help her find the best care for her patients.

I have been seeing Dr Goulston for a number of years and will continue to do so. I feel she is very competent, informed about my conditions and anything new in my health areas, including new standards of care. I spend the money on a air flight to come to her when I could go to someone closer to my home. That is because I trust her and am comfortable with her.

Dr. Claudia Goulston is an outstanding doctor and so concerned. If i leave a message either by phone or on the website, she gets back to me so quickly (even on weekends and holidays). I know she really cares and is concerned for my total health. She is brilliant and pursues the answers until she gets them. I absolutely love her as a doc and feel she respects my input and knowledge. She never talks down to me. Paula Gibbs is also WONDERFUL! After being her patient for 10 years, I know she cares about my recovery from drugs and alcohol and my depression I keep going through.

This appointment was one that Dr. Goulstan fit me in. i had been in contact with her via the "My Chart" program and she felt that I needed to be seen. Claudia Goulston, MD

Director, Infectious Disease Fellowship

Dr. Goulston joined the University of Utah in August of 2006 and is the Director of the Infectious Disease Fellowship Program. She divides her time between the HIV clinic and inpatient consultation services as well as training young physicians. She has several research projects involving HIV elite controllers, latency and reactivation and has been the principal investigator on several pharmaceutical sponsored clinical HIV trials.

Before coming to Utah, she worked in Eugene, Oregon where she ran an HIV, infectious disease and travel clinic for 8 years. She then spent 2 years working around the world traveling from New Zealand as a consultant physician teaching medical students and residents, to Shanghai China setting up a US style expatriate clinic and then with the University of Washington I-Tech Program in Namibia teaching other physicians to effectively manage HIV.
