Academic Bio

Dr. Tim Holmberg is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology. His clinical focus involves cardiac anesthesia and echocardiography. He is a member of the Division of Perioperative Echocardiography in the Department of Anesthesiology and is a level III trained echocardiographer, works in the University Hospital Perioperative Medicine Clinic, and is on the cardiac anesthesia team.

Current research interests involve the role of echocardiography in the perioperative setting. In particular, he is interested in ways in which echocardiography can be used in acute care settings, such as the operating room and intensive care units, to aid in diagnosis and management of unstable or critically ill patients. Other research interests include lung ultrasound and the use of echocardiography to guide fluid managment decisions intraoperatively.

Dr. Holmberg oversees and teaches residents in the general ORs, the perioperative medicine clinic at the University Hospital , and in the echocardiography lab at the Salt Lake City Veterans Affairs Hospital. He especially enjoys teaching residents and medical students about cardiovascular and pulmonary physiology.
