Academic Bio

Dr. Orgain has a broad-based anesthesiology practice ranging from oncologic surgery to burn trauma to orthopedics with a focus and interest in safe and effective control of pain in the period around surgery. He is fellowship trained in Acute Pain Management and Regional Anesthesia including ultrasound-guided nerve block techniques. Beyond the Operating Rooms, Dr. Orgain's academic interests include use of high-fidelity simulation for education of residents, medical students, and medical teams to improve communication, teamwork, and bring safe care to patients. His early career in medicine was in prehospital emergency medicine and trauma, and his work continues as a lecturer in the University of Utah's Paramedic program, and through training the AirMed air transport critical care paramedics and flight nurses in the ORs. The best medicine and best outcomes for patients comes when medical and surgical teams are able to communicate, work, and collaborate every day for every patient. Dr. Orgain's life interest in medicine is aimed at building high-performance teams who deliver top-quality care... because each of us has been or will be the patient some day.
