Bio

Dr. Hersh received his medical degree and doctoral degrees from Dartmouth Medical School, and completed his Pediatrics residency and Fellowships in Infectious Diseases and General Pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Utah in the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. His clinical interests include all aspects of the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases among patients ranging from infants to young adults. His academic interests are in the areas of health services research and clinical epidemiology.

Academic Bio

Dr. Hersh received his B.A. at Middlebury College and his doctoral and medical degrees at Dartmouth Medical School. He trained in pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases at the University of California, San Francisco.

He joined the faculty at the University of Utah in 2010 as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. Dr. Hersh is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, The Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society and the Infectious Diseases Society of America. He currently serves as Chair of the Outpatient Subcommittee for the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society Committee on Antimicrobial Stewardship. He also is the Associate Program Director of the Pediatric Infectious Disease Fellowship Program.

Dr. Hersh’s research interests include health services research and clinical epidemiology. His work focuses on understanding variability in the use of antimicrobials in pediatrics and developing interventions to improve the quality and safety of antimicrobial prescribing for children. His research has been supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed scientific articles, textbook chapters, reviews and scientific abstracts.
