Bio

Dr. Coon is a pediatric hospitalist whose research focuses on protecting children from medical interventions for which the harms may outweigh the benefits. His early work has explored the problem of overdiagnosis in children, the accurate detection of abnormalities from which patients do not experience net benefit. While this concept is well described in the setting of adult cancer screening (prostate and breast cancer), little attention has been given to the possibility that overdiagnosis may be present among commonly diagnosed pediatric conditions.
