About TeleGenetics

TeleGenetics offers patients virtual genetic counseling over video connections or by telephone. This convenient service removes the hassle and cost of travel and extends our reach to people who live throughout the Mountain West.

The TeleGenetics Service Line at Huntsman Cancer Institute is part of the telehealth program at University of Utah (U of U) Health. TeleGenetics can help in many ways:

  • Provide patients explanations of cancer diagnoses
  • Guide treatment options with personalized recommendations
  • Clarify cancer risks
  • Determine appropriate cancer screening and risk-reducing options for patients and their families

Our genetic counselors can meet with patients before and after genetic testing. We can also help set up genetic testing.

How TeleGenetics Works

We contract with hospitals across the Mountain West to provide genetic counseling to their patients. Some of these partner hospitals may not be affiliated with Huntsman Cancer Institute and U of U Health.

Providers at contracted hospitals can refer patients for remote genetic counseling services through HIPAA-compliant virtual technology (such as Vidyo or InTouch) or by telephone. This may be before or after the patient has genetic testing results.

Whatever the needs of your hospital, we can talk with you about how our service can help meet the needs of your community.
