Kurt Hegmann, MD, MPH, is a board-certified physician specializing in preventive, occupational and environmental medicine. He directs the University's Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health, one of 17 centers in the US. He completed medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed 2 residency programs, one in internal medicine and the other in occupational medicine. Dr. Hegmann specializes in the care of injured workers. He is particularly known for expertise in musculoskeletal disorders and the evaluation of commercial drivers (“DOT” exams). He also serves as an occupational medicine consultant. Dr. Hegmann’s professional interests include over 15 major research studies related to occupational health, particularly in the areas of musculoskeletal disorders and the health and crash prevention of truck drivers. Additionally, he has served as Chair of multiple national medical and occupational health organizations and boards. In his leisure time, Dr. Hegmann enjoys skiing, hiking and gardening.

Kurt Timothy Hegmann, MD, MPH, FACP, FACOEM is Dr. Paul S. Richards Endowed Chair and Center Director of the University of Utah’s Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health. Dr. Hegmann has a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Medical Science. He earned his Medical Degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1987. He completed Internal Medicine and Occupational Medicine Residencies at the University of Utah. He is board certified in Preventive Medicine in the specialty of Occupational Medicine. Dr. Hegmann’s research interests include musculoskeletal disorders and transportation medicine. He is the lead physician and epidemiologist on 2 of the most extensive cohort studies funded to date, one on the distal upper extremity and the other on lower back pain. Dr. Hegmann chairs the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine’s (ACOEM) Occupational Medicine Practice Guidelines and leads the development of the ACOEM Evidence-based Treatment Guidelines which incorporate over 15,000 references. He teaches Occupational Injuries and Diseases, Occupational Epidemiology and Clinical Prevention. Dr. Hegmann has been in clinical practice for 20 years.
