Luca Brunelli, M.D., Ph.D. is an Associate Professor in the Division of Neonatology at the University of Utah, School of Medicine. He provides neonatology services at three facilities, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at University of Utah Hospital, Primary Children’s Hospital and Intermountain Medical Center. Among his responsibilities is educating Pediatric Residents, Neonatology Fellows and Neonatal Nurse Practitioners.

Academic Bio

Luca Brunelli, MD, PhD is Assistant Professor in the Division of Neonatology at the University of Utah School of Medicine. He serves as an attending neonatologist in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units at the University of Utah Hospital, Primary Children´s Medical Center, and Intermountain Medical Center. Dr. Brunelli was a pediatric anesthesiologist prior to becoming a neonatologist. His research interests include molecular techniques, and the genetics of congenital heart disease and congenital diaphragmatic hernia.

Dr. Brunelli is a member of the Children's Health Research Center, and works in close collaboration with the Laboratory of Dr. H. Joseph Yost at the University of Utah. He is a previous winner of the Gilbert Forbes Fellowship for Research from Strong Children's Research Center, University of Rochester Medical Center. His research has been funded by the Primary Children’s Medical Center Foundation and the American Heart Association. Dr. Brunelli’s lab is interested in developing new molecular techniques, and studies mice and humans to understand how genes regulate cardiorespiratory development and/or disease.
