  • Bruce Thomas, M.D., is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon, and Orthopedic Clinical Attending for the University of Utah. Dr. Thomas specializes in diagnosis and treatment of shoulder, knee and sports injuries including instability, rotator cuff tears, and knee pain.

Dr. Thomas is a graduate of Brigham Young University and the Medical College of Georgia. He completed his internship and orthopedic training at the Naval Medical Center, San Diego where he was chief resident and was retained as teaching staff at the completion of his residency. He spent 3 years assigned to the Navy Seals and has experience and particular interest in returning patients of all athletic levels to their optimal performance. Surgery is one treatment that can help patients, but not all patients need surgery, and not all patients need the same surgery. Treatment decisions should be a collaborative effort between the patient and the surgeon after a discussion of the diagnosis, options for treatment, benefits of treatment and risks of treatment alternatives.

In his free time Dr. Thomas is a Utah out door enthusiast, skier, hiker and avid cyclist.
