Phillip Barnette, MD, DVM, is an associate professor in the University of Utah School of Medicine and a member of the Experimental Therapeutics Program at Huntsman Cancer Institute. He is a pediatric oncologist-hematologist.
Barnette is interested in the study of acute childhood leukemia, clinical trials of leukemia, and research and therapeutic advances in childhood leukemia.
He received both a bachelor's of science and doctorate of veterinary medicine degree at Oregon State University, Corvallis. He received a medical degree at Oregon Health Sciences University, Portland.

Dr. Barnette received his medical degree at Oregon Health and Sciences University, and completed his pediatric residency at Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, Oregon. His fellowship training was completed at the University of Utah.
He joined the faculty of the University of Utah in 2003, where he is currently an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology. He is board certified in General Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. He is a member of the Experimental Therapeutics Program.
His clinical and research interests include high risk acute leukemias and the underlying genetic basis of leukemogenesis. He also has an interest in clinical trials and process improvement. He serves as the institional Principal Investigator for the Children's Oncology Group.
