UofU Patient March 22, 2013Dr. Burks and the resident were very businesslike, efficient, and communicated clearly. All of which I liked. The only negative was that no one asked me about my goals, preferences or concerns before telling me what the treatment plan was. I actually felt great about the treatment plan, but it still would have been better to be asked.

UofU Patient March 19, 2013I am concerned because I fell last September 2012. The radiologist reading the MRI noted a "graft tear". Dr. Burks disagreed with this prognosis. I have spent the last six months trying to persuade the doctors there that something is not right. I have increasing pain. If the radiologist reads the scan how can there be a disgreement with the surgeons about the outcome of the reading. I feel like I have not been taken seriously.

To be perfectly honest, I have met with him on days before where he has clearly been rushed (which is completely understandable given his profession, and because I am sure he has many patients with needs that are far more acute than mine!). In any case, I was extremely appreciative of the thoughtful explanations he provided to me on the challenges I have been having with my knee on this visit. I feel very confident in his abilities as a physician. I am fortunate to be his patient.

My medical vocabulary is fairly limited, so I don't follow the explanations, particularly when we're looking at the images from radiology, fast enough. I keep thinking I should record the doctor's explanations with my phone so I can digest them later!

UofU Patient January 14, 2013I would have liked to be able to make a decision regarding the surgical procedure. I felt like I had no decision as to what was done and what was not done. I am worried that I will have to go back in for another surgery due to continued pain and weakness in my biceps.

UofU Patient December 14, 2012Sometimes doctors are "above" we common folk and treat us accordingly. Not so with Dr. Burks. I felt that he had genuine compassion for me. He carefully showed me my x-rays and explained the issue and options. He did not push me into anything. He encouraged me to go home and think about them and discuss them with my family. I felt very comforted and comfortable with him. I felt I could have asked any question and not have been judged or treated as "less than." Dr. Burks and his staff were all very personable which gives a patient confidence to ask about things.
