Have you ever found a bruise on your body and wondered how it got there? "The trick is to determine whether the bruise is a normal consequence from a trauma—which you may or may not remember—or if it is something more serious," says Debra Shinkle, MD, a family medicine physician at University of Utah Health. Most cases are benign and can be evaluated during a physical exam. Here, Shinkle shares reasons some people may bruise more easily than others.
Medications and vitamins that may cause people to bruise:
- Blood thinners
- Aspirin or ibuprofen
- Antibiotics
- Antidepressants
- Vitamin E
- Ginger
- Ginkgo
"Other medications may also be a factor. Talk with your doctor about any concerns," Shinkle says.
