Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) has named Kevin Cheney, MBA, CPA, as its executive director of finance and administration.

In this role, Cheney will serve as an executive leader with responsibility for HCI’s research finances and administrative units. He will work closely with HCI leaders across the cancer center’s research, clinical care, and education missions to evaluate the financial feasibility, vitality, and sustainability of ongoing operations and proposed new initiatives. Cheney will also continue to oversee budgets and financial analysis for HCI’s cancer hospital and clinical programs.

Cheney has served at HCI for 21 years in roles with progressive responsibility for financial leadership, budgeting, internal controls, purchasing, payroll, and other areas.

"I have had the privilege of working closely with Kevin on a variety of projects across the Huntsman Cancer Institute research and clinical missions for many years, and he is a wealth of knowledge in addition to being an extraordinary financial leader and person of complete integrity," said Mary Beckerle, PhD, HCI CEO.

Cheney received his bachelor of science, magna cum laude, in finance from Westminster College and earned a master of business administration from the University of Utah, where he was named outstanding scholar of his program. The HCI executive director of finance and administration position was previously held by Scott Lloyd, MBA, CPA, as a dual role alongside an appointment as chief transformation officer. Lloyd will remain at HCI and will now focus his full efforts on the cancer center’s transformation portfolio.
