We are pleased to announce the 2021 recipients of the Susan Cooper Jones Endowed Fellowship in Cancer Research:

  • Helen Lillie, PhD: Dr. Lillie received her PhD from Purdue University in Indiana. During her postdoctoral training in Jakob Jensen's lab, she studied effective communication strategies in cancer.
  • Helong Zhao, PhD: Dr. Zhao received his PhD at The Ohio State University in Columbus. He is currently conducting postdoctoral research in Mike Deininger's lab studying stem cells in chronic myeloid leukemia.
  • Peng Zhang, PhD: Dr. Zhang received his PhD from China Agricultural University in Beijing. He is currently a research associate in Bruce Edgar's lab and is studying autophagy in intestinal stem cells.

Postdocs are eligible for the Susan Cooper Jones Fellowship, which recognizes an outstanding cancer-focused research contribution or exceptional promise.

The award of $1,000 is made possible by the generosity of the family of Susan Cooper Jones, a young mother who lost her life to cancer.

Cancer touches all of us.
