For the 15th consecutive year, University of Utah Health has been recognized as a top performer in the 2024 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Study by Vizient, Inc. U of U Health demonstrates excellence in delivering high-quality care, based on the Vizient Quality and Accountability Study, conducted annually since 2005.
The comprehensive ranking of academic medical centers measures performance on the quality of patient care in safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient centeredness, and equity.
This year, 860 hospitals from across the country participated in the ranking, which helps participating hospitals understand their performance against peers and identify processes associated with higher performance in quality and safety across a broad spectrum of patient care initiatives.
In addition to its placement on the top performer list, U of U Health also ranked #3 nationally in Vizient’s Ambulatory Care Quality and Accountability Awards. This is the tenth year in a row that U of U Health has ranked in the top ten nationally for its ambulatory quality of care.
"Our tradition of excellence is built on our team members' daily dedication and expertise," said Dan Lundergan, CEO of University of Utah Health Hospitals & Clinics. “Their commitment has earned us this distinction and sustained our history of high rankings. I am incredibly proud of the culture we have fostered together, one that emphasizes skilled, compassionate, and high-quality care for our patients and community.”
Recognitions were determined through the Vizient Ambulatory Quality and Accountability Scorecard, which benchmarks data from participating organizations to measure performance in access to care, quality, efficiency, continuum of care, and equity.
"We have an unwavering commitment to excellence in patient care here at U of U Health,” said Kencee Graves, M.D., interim Chief Medical Quality Officer at U of U Health. “Being recognized as a top performer in the Vizient Quality & Accountability Leadership Study for the 15th consecutive year is a testament to the dedication of our entire health care team. This achievement reflects our commitment to provide safe, effective, and patient-centered care across all aspects of our practice. As we celebrate this milestone, we remain focused on continuous improvement and innovation to meet the evolving health care needs of our community.”
