U of U Health Neurologist Receives NINDS Outstanding Investigator Award

Stefan Pulst
Stefan M. Pulst, M.D., Dr. Med., professor and chair of the Department of Neurology at University of Utah Health, is one of nine recipients nationwide of the 2022 R35 Outstanding Investigator Award from the National Institutes of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). The award is for up to eight years and $7.5 million, allowing accomplished scientific investigators with outstanding accomplishments in neuroscience research to explore fundamental questions with exceptional potential in great depth.

Pulst’s research focuses on understanding the mechanisms behind the emerging concept that neurodegenerative diseases are linked to malfunctions in the way cells cope with cellular stress. His team is translating these novel and basic discoveries into treatments for neurodegenerative conditions like Lou Gehrig’s disease (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) and Alzheimer’s disease.
