SALT LAKE CITY – The Daybreak community in South Jordan is now home to the University of Utah's largest off-campus medical facility. The new 208,000 square-foot-South Jordan Health Center officially opens its doors with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Jan. 18, 2012.
The facility offers health care for all ages, including primary, emergency, and specialty care services. It features a 24-hour emergency room; AirMed helicopter transport; a full-service pharmacy, 200 primary and specialty care physicians, nurses, and staff that will eventually grow to 400; and branches of Huntsman Cancer Institute and the Moran Eye Center.
Built in the heart of the Daybreak community in South Jordan, the health center sits on 10 acres, with another 50 acres set aside for future expansion. "South Jordan has seen tremendous growth over past few years and the need for high quality health care grows with every new home that is built," says David Entwistle, CEO of University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics. "We are thrilled to be the new neighbors in town and to bring all the expertise of University of Utah Health Care to the south valley."
Additional features of the new health center include:
- Self-check-in kiosks to cut down on wait time and to increase privacy
- Patient privacy hallways
- The state's first and only Flash CT scanner which is one of the fastest imaging tools available
- Weighted supply shelves that automatically download supply orders as shelf gets lighter
- Warm colors, wide-open spaces and easy to navigate hallways
- Green building design
The facility also has large meeting spaces that can be used by the community. "Our doctors and nurses are part of this community," says Rob Lloyd, executive director of U of U Health Care's Community Clinics. "You'll not only see our staff here in this facility, but on the sidelines at high school games and in these neighborhoods. We not only intend to serve this community, but we will strive to be a part of it."
