What is Build-A-Bone?

Build-a-Bone is an educational program about osteopenia and osteoporosis—designed to help you live well with bone loss, prevent further progression, and support long-term bone health. Offered throughout the year in both in-person and virtual (Zoom) formats, the program blends expert medical guidance with practical, everyday strategies you can use right away.

Classes are taught by medical professionals and educators from the University of Utah Health—including Vishnu Sundaresh, MD, MSCI, Professor of Medicine and Director of the Osteoporosis & Metabolic Bone Health Program, a nationally recognized expert in bone health—giving you direct access to leading expertise in osteoporosis care.

Program Details

Over the course of four interactive 2-hour classes, you will:

  • Learn posture and spine-sparing techniques to protect your back
  • Practice safe body mechanics, weightlifting, and core strengthening exercises
  • Improve balance and walking for greater confidence and independence
  • Gain personalized insight into medical considerations and nutrition strategies that support bone strength
