She also is instrumental in educating nurses, medical students, and residents in treating the surgical breast oncology patient and she also participates in research and program development.
Ms. Serpico spearheaded development of the breast cancer educational video in collaboration with Dr. Neumayer, which has led to hospital wide implementation of this method of patient education. She is the primary investigator for the Shared Decision Making Breast Video Project and is participating in a UUMG project to devise an antiemetic protocol for patients that are undergoing mastectomy with reconstruction.
Ms. Serpico feels that the work she has done with Dr. Neumayer is especially rewarding as it allows for so many opportunities to improve the quality of patients’ lives that are undergoing treatment for breast cancer and survivorship.
