Bio

Dr. Lewis practices inpatient adult psychiatry and his clinical interests involve the diagnosis and treatment of major psychiatric disorders with an emphasis on schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Other clinical interests include catatonia and treatment-resistant depression. He chairs the UNI Ethics Committee and is interested in ethical dilemmas that arise in clinical practice.

Academic Bio

Dr. Benjamin Lewis completed his undergraduate work at Harvard University with a degree in English Literature and coursework in philosophy and physics, graduating magna cum laude with summa cum laude thesis honors. He then pursued his premedical studies at the University of Iowa and then enrolled in the University of Iowa for medical school from 2004-2008. He completed his Adult Psychiatry residency at the University of Utah in July, 2012 and is currently on faculty as a Clinical Instructor in the Dept. of Psychiatry doing inpatient work at UNI. Research interests include topics in the philosophy of psychiatry surrounding issues of philosophy of mind, classification, and issues of social construction. He is actively involved with the national association AAPP (Assoc. for the Advancement of Philosophy of Psychiatry). Dr. Lewis is actively involved in the residency training program through both direct clinical supervision as well as lectures and is currently co-course director for both the Psychiatric Diagnostics course as well as the Psychodynamics curriculum. He is the current chair of the UNI Ethics Committee.
