Languages Spoken: English
I am a board certified anesthesiologist with specialty board certification in cardiothoracic anesthesiology and a level three certified echocardiographer. In the Department of Anesthesiology I am a member of the Cardiac Anesthesia, Perioperative Echo, Preoperative Clinic and Obstetric Anesthesia teams. My overarching goal is to transform perioperative cardiovascular medicine by advancing the practice of cardiovascular anesthesia and by educating the next generation of physicians. The four pillars of my academic career are: 1) advancing cardiac anesthesiology through applied excellence in perioperative echocardiography and continuous quality improvement, 2) innovating and ensuring excellence in the education and application of perioperative echocardiography, 3) training the next generation in patient safety and quality improvement (PS and QI) and applying this to patients, and 4) improving our approach to pregnant patients with complex cardiac disease.

Research Statement
My goal is to advance the field of perioperative echocardiography and cardiac anesthesiology through the utilization of the U of U Department of Anesthesiology’s unique expertise in perioperative echocardiography and the success of the Perioperative Echo and Cardiac Research Group. After joining the faculty, myself and other anesthesia faculty created the Perioperative Echo and Cardiac Research Group. The purpose of this group is to move the field of perioperative cardiovascular medicine forward through investigation into cutting edge echo techniques to take better care of cardiac patients and improve patient outcomes. Recent projects include The value of intraoperative echocardiography to right ventricular failure after LVAD; transesophageal echocardiographic parameters for assessing right ventricular function during cardiac surgery; and echocardiographic findings in late trimester pregnancy.
