I liked that Dr. Backman let me try to use a natural remedy instead of a statin drug. It turn out i need the drug, but that is my decision and not dictated to me. Also when I did not want to do a mamogram he was fine about my choice. He gives me good simple medicine instead of lots of drugs etc. I am referring to salt water for sinus treatment.

I'm not sure why I keep going back to the doctor. He is extremely nice, but gives minimal effort when it comes to a physical exam. Even though my doctor was running very late, he did not rush my appointment. There was a PA student, a premed student and someone else (maybe a nurse?) in with Dr. Backman. It was fine with me for them to be in room as I understand this is a teaching hospital. It did get a little awkward at times when I felt the dr was giving more attention to "quizzing" the PA student than to me as a patient. I would have preferred for him to have spoken to me directly more, especially given this was the first time I was meeting him.

There is a great deal of ambiguity in this situation. What do you do for a cold that drags on and on? I was feeling miserable. Difficult to comprehend anything. I wasn't feeling well and didn't ask enough questions. Dr. Backman recommended I take Mucinex after I had mentioned to him that I was taking Robitussin and a Sudafed-like product. He didn't say to quit the Robitussin and Sudafed. I got home and couldn't figure out why to change medications when they all had the same active ingredients. The Mucinex worked fine on its own. Everything OK.

It was hard to get appointment with provider. Provider did not explain that fasting was needed for blood tests (or that any would be taken that day) and the testing will have to be done again. I get the feeling that I am a number and not a patient or person with this practice. Provider does use MyChart and I think that is a good thing for my care and good involvement, but I'd prefer more personal contact and less automation.

I have been a patient of Dr. Backman's for over 3 years and place my complete trust in him. I had a troubling subject to share with him at this appointment and he took well over an hour with me to ensure that my concerns were addressed. I know I will always receive this level of care from him since he has done so previously with appointments for both myself and my daughter. I see a little wait from time to time as minor because he is hopefully helping his other patients as much as he helps my family! I did not select an answer for #5 since he did not prescribe any medications.
