Stacy A. Johnson, M.D., M.S. is a Professor of Medicine (Clinical) in the Division of General Internal Medicine. As a Hospitalist in Internal Medicine, his clinical interests include diagnosis and treatment of venous thromboembolic disease, point-of-care ultrasound, and hospital medicine.
Dr. Johnson served as the Medical Director of the UUH Thrombosis service from 2012-2021, acting as a principal investigator for several clinical and observational trials evaluating direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs), INR monitoring methods, use of natural language processing for VTE diagnosis, and clinical outcomes of pulmonary embolism. He led the creation and implementation of a Pulmonary Embolism Care Pathway to standardized treatment across the health system. More recently his focus has shifted to hospital medicine research and mentoring junior faculty. He is the Co-Director of the UQuAL Scholars Program, a faculty development program for early career hospitalists.
Dr. Johnson received his M.D. from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science/Chicago Medical School. He completed Internal Medicine residency training in 2008 at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Then he completed a Chief Medical Resident year in 2009, after which he joined the faculty of the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Additionally, he completed a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation in 2021. He remains a board-certified physician in Internal Medicine.
