  • Dr. Carole Baraldi, M.D., is a professor in the Division of Geriatrics and a faculty member at the George E. Whalen Veterans Affairs Medical Center Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Center (GRECC). She is board certified in Geriatrics and Hospice and Palliative Medicine and is a Certified Medical Director in Post-Acute and Long Term Care. Her current clinical interests include optimizing care of frail, geriatric surgical patients. She has focused much of her clinical career on care of seriously ill older adults in long-term settings including skilled nursing and assisted living settings. Her academic interests include education of medical students, residents and fellows in the clinical setting, multi-disciplinary care models in the care of geriatric surgical patients, transitions of care and end-of-life care models.

    Dr. Baraldi received her M.D. degree from The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and completed an internal medicine residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. She received additional training with geriatric fellowships at the University of Utah School of Medicine. After concluding formal training in 2000, Dr. Baraldi practiced geriatrics in the Salt Lake City community in skilled nursing care, hospice care and primary care. In 2009 she returned to an academic career at the University of Utah. There, she served as the Geriatric Fellowship Program Director for 13 years, and as a core faculty educator in the medical school Clinical Methods Curriculum for 4 years. She also functioned as a medical director at community skilled care facilities and the Salt Lake Veterans Home, providing medical leadership, clinical care and education in those settings. For the past 3 years she has helped develop and grow a new program, the Care Coordination and Optimization for Geriatric Surgery (COGS) service at the Salt Lake Veterans Administration Medical Center. After a childhood and early life in many countries and states, she has made Salt Lake City her home since 1997. She loves anything involving being outside. She also enjoys free time with her family, which now includes a baby granddaughter!
