The patient rating score is an average of all responses on our patient experience survey. The rating averages scores for all questions about care from our providers. The scale on which responses are measured is 1 to 5 with 5 being the best score.
Patient comments are gathered from our patient experience survey and displayed in their entirety. For the convenience of our visitors, some patient comments have been translated from their original language into English while preserving their original meaning as accurately as possible. Patients are de-identified for confidentiality and patient privacy.

Well I actually saw the PA he did most of the work doctor Anderson came to just confirm what he did which is all good both were upbeat
I've been to multiple hip Drs and by far Dr Anderson is the best! He not only listened to our concerns but he was extremely knowledgeable. He explained everything throughly and answered every single one of our questions with kindness. Being an out of state patient he and his staff made sure we left feeling confident in the plan and recovery! Needless to say I'll be returning to Dr. Anderson for any further hip or knee needs.
We are so thankful for the way Dr. Anderson explained to our daughter and us his plan of care now and in the future. We are so thankful for how ypu took time to know her needs, understand her needs and plan accordingly. Thank you for offering hope and encouraging to trust that she will be much better and that this hip replacement will a blessing to her. We were nervous on how the appointment will go, at the end we were so thankful for how our Dr. Hennessey at Shriners referred us to you. She is right. You are right for our daughter and our family. Thank you
Great Doctor
Ugg. Just Ugg.
Dr. Anderson put me at ease and was kind, caring and funny (which I greatly appreciated).
A rock star of a surgeon. The best! He dealt with another surgeon's mess (a malfunctioning knee replacement) and replaced it with another prosthesis that gave me back my mobility. If I need another total knee replacement for my other knee I will be back!!!
I've had one appointment with Dr. Anderson, to determine why my knee continues to be painful after a partial knee replacement with a different surgeon in Montana. Dr. Andersen took time to listen to me and answered every question along the way, patiently and in detail. He reviewed my knee scans with me, describing problem areas and laid out each scenario/option. I truly feel that I made the right decision to travel a long distance to be seen by Dr. Anderson. We don't have all the answers yet, but I feel confident that I am receiving the very best care.
Dr. Anderson seemed pleasant, but the appointment felt rushed and impersonal. The entire visit lasted less than 15 minutes and focused almost exclusively on reviewing X-rays and a surgery handout, with little opportunity for discussion. I was not asked if I had questions, and when I did ask, the answers were brief and dismissive. For a surgical consult, I expected a more thoughtful and patient-centered interaction. Because of this experience, I've decided not to move forward with him for my surgery.
He was very kind. He made me feel important to him. He listened to my concerns and took them seriously and helped me understand what to do.
I would highly recommend Dr Lucas Anderson !!
I had a hip replacement. Dr. Anderson and his team provided the best care before, during, and after surgery
Dr. Anderson displayed exceptional personal care to me as a patient and took time to deal with my concerns.
Doctor Anderson is awesome.
A tremendously skilled surgeon! And I observed him explaining a condition to a resident: clear and practical.
Dr. Anderson and his team are top of the line. I'm grateful for their professionalism, respect and continuous support during the healing process. I would use their expertise again, if needed, in the future.
Dr. Anderson was very caring in the care that I needed. From the first visit to scheduling hip replacement surgery, the surgery and post surgery he has an excellent program. The videos of what to expect and how to get ready for surgery to the text program to help you remember and ask questions and motivate were very helpful. The Physical Therapy program was so helpful to get strength back to the hip and let healing begin.
Dr. Anderson is a caring and knowledgeable physician.
Dr Lucas Anderson is very professional, highly skilled, kind and knowledgeable. I am so impressed with him and I am so grateful that he was my surgeon,
Great to work with, explanation and great follow up
I feel he is the most caring surgeon I have dealt with
Very professional. Kind and truly caring. Excellent bedside manner. Truly knowledgeable. Knows his stuff!!!
When I had my first hip repaced I decided to have medication during the surger, but not enough to put me to sleep. I did well and was able to go home after the surgery was completed.
I think Dr. Anderson is a a very skilled surgeon. I was told repeatedly that the partial replacement I had had 16 years earlier was going to cause complications and refused to do the surgery. One of them finally told me to go to the U of U. The previous surgery didn't seem to concern Dr. Anderson, he said it would require some extra steps but didn't seem too concerned. The results of the surgery was excellent. I don't think I can say much more than that.
Overall good experience
Lucas Anderson MD is the most caring and compassionate surgeon I have ever dealt with. Thank you to him and his staff for for their care.
He is an excellent professional and person. I am very grateful for the knee replacement and the excellent work he did, which will allow me to move forward. Thank you so much! [TRANSLATED]

Dr. Anderson has created an exceptional program for total hip arthroplasty which includes, not only the advanced anterior approach for hip replacement surgery, but also a unique texting program that follows the post-surgical recovery period with helpful information about care and what to expect during this time. He is a very thoughtful, caring and intuitive physician who clearly demonstrates his genuine concern for the health of his patients.
Dr. Anderson has a wonderful demeanor in showing sincere concrete for his patients. He also projects a strong command of his expertise to provide us confidence in his abilities.
He is a thorough knowledgeable Doctor that took great care of me for my total knee replacement!

Dr Anderson is a great caring Dr. with my experience with him so far he has Ben kind and understanding and has made me feel comfortable and at ease. He has addressed any issues or concerns that he has with me openly and honest. He has also addressed any concerns and questions that I have and that my family has. He and Dr McQueen are a great team and I am happy to have them both. I would recommend both of them 100%
Dr. Anderson listened to my complaints and concerns about my ongoing pain in my Right knee 2.5 years after a total knee replacement. We discussed having the patella on my R knee resurfaced to alleviate the pain. We noted that the procedure could be 100% effective or not at all. I trusted his judgement.

Dr. Anderson was very pleasant and explained the process of the surgery in a clear, understandable manner. I had determined that surgery was going to be necessary and that doing it sooner rather than later would be helpful in recovering. That was true and I plan to schedule the other knee replacement surgery sometime in autumnÉwith Dr. Anderson.
I did not see Dr. Anderson on this virtual appointment. But in the past, heÕs just been wonderful to work with. I appreciate all the care that has been given to me while I was at university of Utah Hospital.

I would highly recommend Doctor Anderson and his entire team, including the Physical Therapists. Daily texts on where I should be in recovery, types of exercises and words of encouragement have been fantastic. I need a Knee Replacement in my other knee in about a year and will definitely have Dr Anderson perform the surgery. It should be noted that in recovery there can be lots of swelling and pain. It is a process and extra patience may be required.

Obviously professional, very empathetic and clear in providing information about my condition, treatment and follow-up.
Thank you Dr Peterson for doing my surgery. I am free of pain and I can walk and exercise at the gym 3 x wk. I will continue to improve with your support and wonderful staff who treat me like a queen. Thank you so much for being patient and good to me.........
Dr Anderson is very caring about the individual and explains current treatment and future expectations.
Dr. Anderson gave me some hope that I may be able to postpone a replacement for a bit of time.
Very knowledgeable. Takes the time to explain the surgery and recovery process. Dr. Andersons text messages you can receive as a patient help you understand where you you should be at in the recovery process and are motivating. He gives you realistic expectations and provides great personable care.
Seems like a caring doctor.

Expert in his job. Probably one of the best in his field
Amazing Dr. Anderson and his patience with me and his concern of surgery outcome with my BMI was important to him for me to understand the impact on surgery and for my welfare. His priority I knew was I, his patient for a healthy safe outcome.
I really like the way Dr. Lucus treated me and listed to all my concerns and explained exactly what they were going to do for a knee replacement.
What a great bedside manner!
High quality team. Excellent communicator
Dr. Anderson provided detailed answers to all my questions and clearly explained the procedure. He spent a lot of time listening to my needs. Jan, his nurse, was particularly helpful, not only in navigating the virtual evaluation but also in assisting with coordinating every aspect of setting up the appointment. The scheduling was quick and straightforward, showcasing the team's overall efficiency.

Best surgeon we have ever had. A serious credit to his profession!!! Thank you, [NAME REMOVED]
Dr took time to listen and explain. His sense of caring is always very good. He also took a moment for prayer just before surgery which gave me a great sense of comfort. The outcome of my surgery has been a great success.
Extremely pleasant, good listener, positive radiographs putting my mind at ease about health of my hips. Assistant excellent as well.

he is very caring and remembered the details of my surgery a year later and remembered my family really treats me as a real person needing help
I came to see Dr Anderson after suffering for a couple of years with a poorly done hip replacement. I had talked to the Dr that did the original surgery here at home but he didn't feel he could correct the problem and suggested I go to SLC. Dr Anderson fixed the hip and corrected the problem that was causing my pain and limp So I still have a big scar from the first surgery but I can now walk without pain.
took the time to explain things very clearly
Dr Anderson is a skilled and knowledgeable surgeon who is caring and attentive. He listens to his patients and ensures they have quality care.
He discussed my problem with me and suggested some medication that might help. He told me that I could either use the pills or a shot. I will see how it goes for now.
He was very understanding, nice and actually didn't just turned me away because of some complications with my knee.
Careful, kind physician who listens and provides amazing care.

Awesome
Dr Anderson was amazing for the first time meeting, he took his time to answer all my questions and made sure I knew exact what the next steps are for my surgery. Was considering a major search for the right Dr for my knee surgery but after my initial consultation, why go anywhere else?
Good job of explaining problem and course of treatment. Maybe could have explained different courses of treatment and benefits and risks of each.
Very nice and professional
Awesome experience!
Dr. Anderson is professional, thorough, knowledgeable, and truly caring. I feel comfortable with him and trust him completely with my orthopedic care.
Dr. Anderson made me feel like a worthwhile patient.
In the future I would select a surgeon who doesnt use a tourniquet. I would not recommend him to anyone
I trust him completely. When he related his own experience with knee pain after hip surgery it helped me feel quite a bit better.
Personable, direct and clear that he was able to do the required surgery. Sure of himself, without being arrogant.
I trust Dr. Anderson and I appreciate his concerns about me. He listens to me when I explain my concerns.
Positive
One good Doctor very caring and has good bed side manners he is awsome
So many doctors give the air of being too busy and or too important to both much with the mundane face to face visit. Not at all with Dr Anderson. Down to earth and a genuinely nice guyas well as knowing his stuff thoroughly
Dr. Anderson was kind, easy to talk with, and very patient.
I really appreciate how fast I could get a surgical date. I was skeptical about his approach to healing as far as anesthesia and pain medication after surgery as I had a completely different experience on a previous TKR. Dr. Anderson was spot on. I had no problem waking up from surgery and was home that afternoon. Recovery was not as bad as I anticipated and the twice daily text of information and encouragement I received after I got home was really helpful. Thank you Dr. Anderson!
I have the greatest respect for Dr. Anderson. He has been instrumental in my recovery.
Upbeat, caring and very skilled.
I was treated very well. My knee is doing great. THANK YOU
He was very considerate and helpful. I felt he had my best interest at heart.
VERY PERSONABLE, TOOK GREAT INTEREST IN HOW I FELT AND WHAT I WAS GOING THROUGH. HAS A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR, I FELT I WAS IN VERY GOOID HANDS. MADE ME FEEL AT EASE.
Dr. Anderson showed disrespect with the concerns that I had concerning the pain i was experiencing. He didn't seem to care how it would affect my daily life.
He was very reassuring about surgery that I'm a little nervous about. He also didn't seem to be in a hurry (even though I'm sure he was). Overall, he was very impressive -- professional and personable!
Above and beyond!
Great doc who cares at what he deos
He listens and explains everything
I like the way he listens to what my needs are.

I had a very positive and engaging experience. I felt at ease with Dr. Anderson's demeanor, his confidence and kindness. I am in good hands with the U of U Orthopedic Center.
He was very nice and understood my concerns. He helped me feel at ease.
I'm going to have him replace my right knee
There simply aren't enough positive words to describe the care I've received so far. I've been to THREE other practices and, hands down, Dr. Anderson's compassion, education, attention to detail and empathy for me, my condition and personal needs and preferences exceed any care I've rec'd from any of the other 3 providers. He puts them all to shame. My only regret is that I didn't find him sooner.
He was very straight forward about what the plan would be for the best outcome!
Best Dr experience Ive ever had.
A great person and SURGEON
Best orthopedic I have ever had , listened to me and got to the bottom of my pain excellent doctor

Dr. Anderson performed my hip replacement in 2020 and I have scheduled a knee replacement in June.

Dr Anderson is an exceptional person and doctor. I am extremely confident with him doing my knee replacement.
I know that this is a learning hospital so understand the intern in the room. I did feel that he spoke to the intern more than us but I also knew that I was feeling no pain and that doing the micro-current for my recovery was exceptionally beneficial to me. Just want to let them know.
Very personable and caring.
Just made feel like he cared
Dr listened to daughter rather than asking me
I have already recommended this facility and Dr Anderson numerous times.
Everyone were so professional and helpful. Great listening and communication
I have already recommended this facility and Dr Anderson numerous times.
Dr listened to daughter rather than asking me
Everyone were so professional and helpful. Great listening and communication
My doctor did not show up in 1 hour 10 min so I left the virtual conference as I had no more time to wait
Dr. Anderson was excellent.
Dr. Anderson was very clear and his explanations were concise.
Everything went very well
I would just say that compared with the other doctors, he makes you wait and may even forget you are there
Jordan and Dr. Anderson have always been very attentive, professional and caring. I definitely feel as though they are "in my corner"
People can't wait 4 months to get better.
Great staff
The Dr. And his staff were extremely helpful and went above and beyond to help. Me.
Compared to other doctors I have seen elsewhere, the level of concern showed by the UofU staff was exemplary. I was most impressed by their concern for any pain that I have and its impact on my activities versus only what the x-ray images revealed.
He is an excellent surgeon and treats patients with respect and dignity. Took time to explain things and let me ask as many questions as I needed. I have already referred my close friends to him.
It was a very good experience.
Jordan took lots of time because I had a lot of questions. He was very thorough in his answers. Dr Anderson also answered my questions and listened to my conerns.
Awesome care provider.
This was my six week follow up visit. It was good news and I felt better when I left that day. Dr. Anderson showed me my x-rays and encouraged me to continue with my Outpatient Physical Therapy and to increase my visits to 3 to 4 times a week. He answered my questions and my visit today was much better than my first visit. Thank you for today's much needed visit.
Best doctor office I have ever been to.
Dr. Anderson is very warm and friendly. Helps you relax and know he is concerned for you. Thorough in his exam and doesn't rush you.
GREAT
Dr Lucas is an outstanding orthopedic surgeon. Showed great concern for the issue I was dealing with and gave excellent feedback and care.
Dr. Andersen is amazing!
Helped diagnose and treat my injury. Explained everything and discussed test results. Gave me a copy of the x-ray. Great physician, friendly and answered all my questions.
All Good
Dr Anderson is the best, most caring of any doctors that I have had.
This was my first visit with Dr. Anderson. I just listened to his explanation of my future surgery of getting a Total Left Knee Replacement. I was unable to ask him any questions, the visit was not very long. He looked like he needed to be somewhere. Perhaps my next visit will be much better.
I will recommend Dr. Andersen to anyone!
I told the doctor about having some possible heart problems and he sent me to the er right after my appointment.
Dr. Anderson is a great surgeon. I will recommend him and his excellent team.
Followed the Doctors orders and did the therapy recommended!

Dr. Lucas Anderson was very good, as usual.
I just wish the doctor would have came back after his PA gave me the shots. I had a lot of questions that were not answered. When I got home I called his nurse. She was wonderful, her name Is Jan. Very helpful and kind. She answered my questions.

Finally somebody that knows what they're talking about
Visit was a 6 week follow up. Doctor was 30 minutes late. Understandable. Visit was very brief as I had not concerns.
Excellent
Can't thank Dr. Anderson and Jan enough for their intervention and assistance
The audio during the call was spotty and hard to hear.
Dr. Lucas Anderson is an awesome provider and clinician. Thank you very much.

Dr Anderson has an excellent caring team.
Dr. Anderson is always great to explain and I feel very comfortable with his care of me
PT was excellent, was very knowledgeable, friendly and professional.
Love this clinic and Dr. Anderson! Everyone has bent over backwards to take good care of me for the last 2 years
He was professional.
Awsome
I wish there was an "excellent" selection for the care and concern provided by Dr. Anderson, For starters, before we even began discussing my medical problem and concerns, he too the time to look me in the eyes and ask me about myself. Such a refreshing start to what will most likely be a future relationship as patient/doctor. He then proceeded to answer all of my questions and impart his clinical evaluation in a concise, understandable, and unhurried manner.
Good
I'm actually going to have Dr.Anderson replace my other knee in the spring. I love him and his team. My hubby thinks they are great too!!! I can not say anything but great things about Dr.Anderson and his team. I have many other health issues and they are very educated in how they are effecting my recovery. No one ever made me uncomfortable asking any questions I have. The team gave me great advice and I am thrilled with where I am right now. I still have goals to meet and after that maintenance. We drive 8 hours and have to stay at hotels to work my doctor's at The University.
Excited to get my leg fixed
All in all a positive experience.
Dr.Anderson was fantastic!
Dr. Lucas Anderson was very thorough when he gave me the update on my surgery.

Very good,thank you.
Dr. Anderson was very helpful and forthright as usual.
The one that has a 4 is because all doctors & nurses talk a language the rest of us don't understand. I try to have my daughter with me to explain it all to me. She is a certified, card playing nurse.
Very good at explaining and making him understand his knee problems and setting up surgery quickly
I was made aware of the surgical procedures and outcomes.
Excellent communication and very supportive
It's a long drive to get to see my the doctor
Referred me to some PT
Everything was explained in a manner I could understand.
