  • Dr. Peter Chira received his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed his pediatrics internship at Children’s National Medical Center, his pediatrics residency at Children’s Hospital Oakland (now UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland), and his clinical fellowship in pediatric rheumatology at Stanford University/ Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. He is a Clinical Professor in the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology at the University of Utah and Primary Children’s Hospital. He is an elected member of the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance leadership and serves as Vice-Chair of the Cross Cutting Research Committee.

    As a pediatric rheumatologist, he cares for all forms of childhood-onset rheumatic conditions including juvenile idiopathic arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, scleroderma, systemic vasculitis, dermatomyositis, as well autoinflammatory diseases. His research focuses on transition of care from pediatric to adult healthcare systems, improving patient experiences with clinical care and research participation, and addressing health inequalities.
