Dr. Carpenter earned his medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in 2015 and completed pediatric residency at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, affiliated with the University of Southern California in 2018. He completed fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine in 2021, followed by Pediatric Cardiology in 2023, both at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University and Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. Dr. Carpenter is board certified in Pediatric Cardiology and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. He is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Utah.

Dr. Carpenter's clinical interests includes care for critically ill infants with heart disease and co-occuring extracardiac anomalies or prematurity, and infants and children with pulmonary hypertension. He is the associate medical director of the Primary Children's Hospital Newborn Intensive Care Unit. His academic work focuses on clinical and echocardiographic outcomes amongst infants with congenital heart disease and congenital diaphragmatic hernia.
