Stephanie M. Lyden, MD

Languages spoken: English
  • Dr. Stephanie Lyden was born and raised in Wyoming. She graduated magna cum laude with degrees in Physiology and Humanities within the Honor's program and concentrations in Neuroscience and Cell Physiology from the University of Wyoming. She then went on to be a clinical research assistant for the National Institutes of Health’s stroke team in Bethesda, MD. She later attended medical school at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA, where she completed various clinical rural rotations throughout Washington, Montana, and Wyoming. She completed a neurology residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago and then a vascular neurology fellowship at the University of Utah.

She is an Assistant Director of the Rural and Underserved Training Experience (RUUTE) and Regional Affairs for the School of Medicine as well as an associate professor at the U (https://medicine.utah.edu/students/programs/md/curriculum/ruute/). From growing up in Wyoming and seeing how medicine is practiced in both academic and rural hospitals, she developed an understanding for the complex nature of healthcare and how these different settings can result in varied systems of care, resource availability, and different care practices. She has an interest in developing ways to improve access to specialty care in rural settings and likes the idea of using new technology, such as telemedicine, to help achieve this. Consequently, she is the director of a telemedicine course that is offered to medical students and is working to create telemedicine tools for other healthcare providers. She feels that exposure to these different healthcare settings in medical school can enrich the education of students to become more well-rounded, conscientious providers. She also completes an outreach clinic in Jackson, WY, every month.

During her free time, she enjoys hiking, backpacking, running, alpine skiing, cross country mountain biking, interior design, architecture and spending time with her family and Labradane, Abu.
