Temperatures are rising, flowers are blooming and spring is in the air. It’s a time for new beginnings and also the perfect time to give your home a thorough spring-cleaning. “Many people suffer with allergies this time of year, thinking pollen is the culprit,” says Kevin Wilson, MD, an allergist at University of Utah Health. “While that’s often the case, allergens also lurk inside the home.”

People who have allergies can take steps to protect themselves at home. “Two ways to do this are to use hypoallergenic bedding and to vacuum with HEPA [high-efficiency particulate air] filters,” Wilson says.

Giving your house a deep scrub will also reduce germs and harmful bacteria that can make your family sick. Download this checklist for a room-by-room cleaning guide. It helps to reduce allergens and germs, and keep your family healthy at home.
