Join us in celebrating National Cancer Registrars Week from April 8-12, 2019. Our theme this year is "Cancer Registrars: Capturing the Picture of Cancer," which reflects the cancer registrars’ role in compiling the critical information needed to support effective cancer treatment and research, with the goal of preventing cancer and finding a cure.

I like knowing that the work we are doing is contributing to and advancing cancer research, treatment protocols, and improved outcomes for patients!

Do you ever wonder how cancer statistics are collected? How doctors determine what cancer treatments are the most effective? Or how public health officials learn where clusters of cancer diagnoses are located?

The work that we do as cancer registrars provides answers to these questions.

Cancer registrars are health care professionals that collect, analyze, and report cancer data. Details on diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship are collected for every cancer patient in the U.S. We work for software vendors, in research, at hospitals, medical facilities, and central registries and the information we collect is reported, by law, to the state and federal government, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Cancer Institute.
